We wanted to create a more private area for our back verandah. So, to achieve that we decided to install a garden screen.
This is what the area looked like before we started and after we had finished….

That’s pretty much it!
There was so much vegetation around this area. It took a month of weekends and multiple trips to the dump before we could even start putting up the screens!

Finally – we can see the actual boundary and just look at the size of that rose bush stump!
Most of the plants we removed were either roses or bouganvillias – both with horrendous thorns. We snipped all the branches into little pieces and carried them in cardboard boxes. That way we could just empty the boxes at the dump.
And now we can start on the screens
We didn’t want a solid barrier between us and the neighbour so decided on these composite screens in grey. The screens are attached to steel posts concreted into the ground and then screwed onto the posts.
To neaten it off we installed some wood retaining wall panels
We chose treated pine sleepers for the retaining wall. The sleepers slide into steel posts concreted into the ground – as usual Bunnings has a good supply of both! The sleepers will be painted a charcoal grey once the entire back area is done.
Almost done!
To be continued…..
Theres still a bit of work to do in the back garden and the side fence. Hope you found a few ideas from this post. If you would like to see our covered verandah renovation feel free to check it out here.
