This is my coffee table renovation with grey paint. When we bought our current house, the previous owners left behind an old coffee table in terrible condition. It was the perfect piece to renovate using chalk paint. As with any paint renovation – I don’t bother to fix any defects or fill any holes. What is there gets painted!
Before and after …
I used Rust-Oleum Charcoal, Dulux French Mist and Dulux White to paint the top in strips of different colours. French Mist to paint the bottom shelf and Charcoal to paint the supports. The shelves were cut from a SpecRite spotted gum panel. As usual everything was bought from Bunnings!
We had been using the table in the garden as a work bench, so it was pretty grubby. I gave it a quick wash with sugar soap and ripped off the panel at the end so that it would be open at both ends. My tools to do the job!
Then came a lot of taping, a lot of painting and a lot of waiting!
I applied at least 3 coats on each strip and probably more on the bottom shelf. As you can see from the middle picture, it was quite warped.
I have a nice little sanding machine that I used to lighly sand the top and edges before applying the protective top coat.
Almost done!
I just need to get the wood panels, cut them to fit and pop them in.
Now it’s done!
That’s it! The old coffee table has a new lease of life – If you want to see a couple of other chalk paint projects have a look here.
